The mommy instinct... who would have known!

Well last night was a "wierd" night for me. I goto bed around 11pm and had just started to fall asleep. I then felt my door open and I looked just as my soon to be 7 year old was closing the door. I called to her which she opened the door again and came in. I asked her "why are you out of bed?" Shes the last one I would expect to wander out of her bed! She told me she did not know. I offered to walk her back to her room and then again asked her why she was out of bed and if everything was okay. She again said she did not know. I tucked her in and headed back to my own room wondering if she had been sleep walking? (She's never done it before)

1:30am has me bolting out of my bedroom and running up and down the hallway. At first, being jolted awake by who knows what I am confused as to why I am even out of bed! I walked fast from my room to the end of the hallway into my eldests room. Perhaps I thought it was her that I was now hearing cry. Then I realize its not coming from there and I am having trouble pinpointing where the crying is coming from! I go back down the hall to realize that my youngests door is wide open. (its usually almost shut) and then I realize shes not in there. I start to head towards the stairs and can hear her crying. I go downstairs and realize that shes standing at the doorway to my computer room and is bawling cause I am not there. Shes never done this. Anytime shes woken up she comes right into my room. I think that my "mommy instinct" kicked in when she was on her way into the computer room. I dont think that I would have heard any crying from our room and the baby monitor is not hooked up in my room!

What a wierd experience. I think it was a rough night for her too as she ended up in my room once more after that!

Interesting night for you! I have done that before too...jolted out of bed not sure why until I actually wake up and can comprehend what is going on. Good ole mommy instinct, we even react in our sleep!

As I approach giving birth I wonder more and more what types of mommy instincts I'll experience as well. I'm glad she's okay!

Definitely never underestimate the wonderful mommy instincts. I know they have been more than useful for me and my son and will continue to be so. I wonder what woke them up though. Just seems so odd.

This sound very interesting. I am not a Mom yet but I can't wait to experience the Mother instinct that you guys and my friends are talking about.

Wow, that's amazing. Of course you wouldn't have heard that except in your heart. I had to gulp down a tear thinking about your little one just standing there wishing for her momma! What a sweetheart

I have been guilty of sleepwalking, cannot stand being woken up in the middle of the night, makes me feel as if my heart is coming out of my mouth.. ugh.. hope you get some restful sleep soon..

That is very interesting...you sound like a great mother! That is a bit scary though, hopefully your daughter is not a sleep walker!

I remember so vividly when I was five years old and stayed up late with my older brother on a Friday night to spend time with him, I got choked on a block of ice that completely blocked my airway. I couldn't make any sound at all-- no cough, no breath, no crying for help. My mom was sound asleep in her room and suddenly came running into the living room where I was sitting on the floor. She picked me up and Heimlich maneuvered the ice out of my trachea. My brother was in shock (he was 16), because he was sitting beside me and didn't even realize I was choking! Mama says she has no idea why she woke up! That's Mama's instinct and divine intervention, for sure. I remember how terrified I felt when I couldn't breathe or cry for help, and how I cried and cried with relief when it was all over.

That was definitely a crazy night for you. Hasn't happened to me...yet!
Hope there are better nights ahead.

Hope the girl's have a better night!! It's always strange when they do things like that - my dear son doesn't get out of bed but wakes up crying, not fully awake and it's hard to know why he's crying because he's not all there. It's hard to deal with at times, but good when the mommy instinct kicks into gear.

I sure hope you had a better night sleep last night.
When I was a step-mom, I had those kind of nights when my step-daughter would wake up crying. And I would all of a sudden be wide awake with no idea why, until I heard her crying.
Our subconscious mind is quite impressive.

I never really have instincts about anything, though I'm not a mom yet. I wonder if they'll kick into gear when I finally have my long awaited little one? Maybe giving birth enhances them. :-) Hope you daughter is feeling better. Danielle T.

Sounds like an interesting night. I take it she's alright?

Instincts are wonderful things, and are more often than not spot on. I trust them more than my head most of the time.

Awwwwww poor baby...... I'm not yet a mother but I do tend to wonder how the mothering instincts actually work... Is it a feeling that you get in your stomach like your about to be sick or is it your guide telling you something isn't right?!? Either way I can't wait for the experience to become a mom...

Wow, that's good your instincts kicked in! I learned to listen to my instincts more when things like that happen. I think my dr even is listening more to her's. She has learned from me how in-tune I seem to be with what's going on inside of me. Instincts are a great thing!

Moms have some amazing instincts! When I was in high school my sister and I were stranded at our school. We were supposed to get a ride home but our friend's car broke down and both our parents were at meetings. We tried calling home but the line was always busy. Without thinking, my mom drove past the school on her way home (out of the way too!) because she said she just knew that we needed her! I am REALLY hoping that I end up with at least half as good mommy instincts as my mommy!!

Something similar happened to me Saturday night with my 2 year old. For me, I sit up in bed out of a dead sleep and look at my mostly closed door just waiting for someone to come it. It's like I can feel a difference in the air when someone wakes up. The door opens and I can feel something is wrong - I quickly picked him up in the dark and went for the bathroom - yup - he barfed...lol. He's come into my bed many times in the middle of the night before and I can't really say why - but I knew this wasn't for sleep purposes.

I've had the same "feeling" each of the 3 times I've had to use First Aid on my kids from choking - each incident I was in a totally separate room or floor in the house.

I am so excited to experience mother's Insights. Truthfully I can't wait to be a mom. I just have to wait and pray that one of these days our dream will come true...
