Reading Give away!

I am sorry for the late posting of the give away for Lyuda. Seems that I now have what the baby did! My nose is a bit stuffed, I was so cold last night that I could not even sleep for at least two hours. To the point I even put a SLEEPING Bag on top of my comforter. My husband thought I was crazy as he said that the bed was already warm enough. Not to me! Certainly did not help that during the day off and on I have been reading the "twilight" series by Stephanie Meyer. I had just finished the third book yesterday and because I was so cold last night, in my dreams i was a vampire! Isn't that so crazy how things like that can come into your dreams? Like I said, my dreams are crazy enough as it is, certainly don't need to add vampires to the list! lol.

I am addicted to reading this series. Its like I am watching a movie and every time I put the book down, I am "pausing" the movie. If you have not gotten into the twilight series, I highly recommend it!

Okay, now onto the giveaway. This should be easy and has nothing to do with being psychic or opening your abilities. As usual everyone has a chance to win just by putting a comment in the section below this post:)

I am going to do our front yard over, give it a bit of a "makeover" does anyone have any suggestions to finish it off? Plants/rocks/bushes, that are low maintenance, but nice? Links to pictures of yards that you like.. doesn't even have to be your own~! I just need ideas!

Winner will be announced on Sunday!

I'm not sure what to tell you since I'm not familiar with your climate. My gardens were killed this winter due to the unseasonable cold temps here in Central Florida. Lows around 20* and highs not reaching 50* for a week totally annilated it.

I wanted to share this coupon with you incase you are interested in purchasing some plants. They have great garden plans on this site as well. Wayside Gardens $25 off

It was 70 degrees here 2 days ago...today it's 40. The cold is seeping into my BONES so I know what you mean about not being able to get warm.

As for the garden...ok I have 6 kids, 3 dogs, 4 cats etc...I need a low maintence kind of garden. I LOVE ground coverings...think like elephant ears or pacasandra etc. Also we use a lot of rocks to "finish" off certain spaces...if you live near or drive by any construction sites, they usually have a lot of rocks and you can just help yourself as they only have to find a way to get rid of them anyway. Here is a picture of our pond/side garden..:

I say two words--cypress mulch. It's a deep, dark mulch that makes any yard look fabulous! It made the biggest difference in our yard...

I really love fire pits as a finishing point. I don't have any ideas on plants because everything I grow dies, but my mother in law has some silk plants that she uses in the garden. They look very nice, but you do have to change them out twice a year or so. If you have dogs, DO NOT plant a sego palm, they are extremely toxic and I have seen several dogs die from injesting them.

Here is a picture of a small fire pit that would make a nice addition and is easy to maintain.

Hi Cheri, well i am not familiar with plants at all so what i always do is head to a nursery or something like a Home depot(i dont know if they have those there) & ask what plants thrive in full sun or shade. Since i live in florida i usally opt for plants that grow well in heat & sun. So it would depend what your climate is year round.
Good luck & post pics of the end result! :)

ive got lovely pieces of slate on my garden stood up on there side, the bird love siting on the edge of them watching the world go by. It just gives the garden an extra focus point. The pieces we have are all different shapes not like the ones on our roof!! They from a slate mine in Wales, England.

Here is a good starting point, I believe anything worth doing , is worth planning out first.. http://www.colostate.edu/Dept/CoopExt/4DMG/VegFruit/planning.htm

I know all about needing things for easy gardening! I love to plant bulbs, they keep coming back, as do planting black eyed susans! :-) hope that helps a little!

Hi Cheri,

Well I do not know too much about plants etc but I have always wanted a little miniature pond type theme in the front of my yard I mean not big at all..Real small with some rocks around it and put a small lil wooden bridge over the top of it, but with you have small children playing it might not be a great idea i mean they are not deep but any little bit of water can hurt..I have always liked weeping willow tree's they are beatiful..I think if you google yard makeovers it shows a bunch of things that can be done to yards and what type of tree's/plants that are available..

I don't really have any advice to add to this but am really excited to hear the answers as we build our house this past year (did practically everything ourselves!!) and now will be heading to the outside once this darn snow is gone! We have a fire pit and use it ALL the time!! If anyone has any ideas of how to deal with a yard that is on in the side of a mountain (ie: retaining walls ect) I would love to hear and see all about it!!

This is the best website to help with landscaping.

I love hummingbird and butterflies gardens for a front yard, you can open your windows in the spring and summer and just smell flowers all day and night long.

My favorite thing to do is to go to walmart, and walk around the nursery to get ideas. Go to a nursery and just walk around till something just calls out to you.

I hope when your done you'll post photos and let us all see!~ Good luck!~

I really like the look of rock. Some of these pics are a little gawdy, but a cute rock path or something of that nature could add a lot to the look of a house.
Good luck!
